about

In June of 2018, the world witnessed the horror of refugee children being separated from their parents and caged by the Trump administration. Protests and forms of resistance sprung up across the nation including an unprecedented bipartisan agreement that the president’s “Zero Tolerance” policy was cruel. In the Bay Area, over 500 community activists met to strategize political, educational, economic, legal, and social resistance. Missing was the cultural platform. To fill that void, a small group of artists and advocates began developing the song project, “Nuestros Niños Son Sagrados - Our Children Are Sacred” to support the movement and to align in the message of “families united and free”.

As children perish, conditions in the holding cells diminish and families continue to suffer separation. We believe it is imperative that we create art that activates and sustains public resistance and financial support of the movement while sending the message.

lyrics

Our Children Are Sacred

¡Cuánta dulzura y valor de una madre y su niño
que emigra y camina hacia una vida mejor!
If this is really the home of the brave,
may our gates now be open
for you had the courage to walk through a perilous fight
with a child in your arms

Our Children are sacred! / ¡Nuestros niños son sagrados!
Our children are beautiful! / ¡Bellos son!
Our children are a gift! / ¡Son el regalo más amado
Our children are sacred / ¡Sagrados son!

Y aquí están cruzando fronteras
Y aquí están trayendo la verdad
Son la voz de amor, y nuestra conciencia,
pues por la violencia cruzando están.

Our Children are sacred! / …

Here they come, eyes wide open
to the violence we have caused
They come bearing gifts for a better tomorrow,
healing the sorrow, opening hearts

Y aquí están llenos de esperanza,
una vida con ganas de amar
Son las maestras, doctores, artistas, madres, ingenieras
de un mundo de paz

Our Children are sacred! …

(our children are sacred)
we welcome and embrace the families
(our children are sacred)
and give them love
(our children are sacred)
we declare sanctuary
(our children are sacred)
building bridges not walls
(our children are sacred)
we must protect our children
(our children are sacred)
show them how that love is really real
(our children are sacred)
they’ve got to know, got to know, got to know, that love
(sagrados son)
that love is real in this world
(sagrados son)
ohhhhhhhhhhh
(sagrados son)
our children are sacred
(nuestros niños, sagrados son)
children are sacred
(nuestros niños, sagrados son)
our children are sacred
ohhh
ritardando: (nuestros niños, sagrados son)
